What I Wore Wednesday

Something I don't blog about at all is fashion, but the thing is, I really, really, really like clothes. I also really, really, really like changing up my outfits. So it would make sense for me to write about it. However, it includes photos of me, and I try to avoid that as much as possible because I make silly faces when I have a camera on me. Ask Raylene. She's Skyped with me enough to know that I have some goofy faces.

Anyway, one of my favorite blogs, The Pleated Poppy, does "What I Wore Wednesday" each week, and I've always wanted to participate, so I figure there is no time like the present. You should know, that these pictures come from the last couple of weeks because I keep meaning to participate, and I don't, and then I get snowed in and wear my sweat pants all day. I know, excuses, excuses.

I wore this to work last week. I needed some color that morning - and coffee!
Scarf - Target
T-shirt - Lane Bryant
Cardigan - TJ Maxx
Pants - TJ Maxx
Boots - DSW

For the record, the strap you see in this photo is my purse. It's not some forward thinking accessory like I'm sure you all thought.
Dress - Half of Half
Cardigan - Lane Bryant
Belt - Cato
Boots - DSW

I love how you all get to see every mirror in my house with these photos.
Sweater - Old Navy ($5, I might add!)
Skirt - I don't know. I've had it forever
Boots - DSW - apparently they're the only boots I own.

See that little flower on my boot? That is meant as a hair accessory. My fabulous sister-in-law gave me a whole box of flowers for Christmas, and she also gave me the fabulous idea of clipping one to my boot to add some pizazz.
Cardigan - TJ Maxx
Shirt - Old Navy (I think - it's old)
Belt - Garage Sale
Skirt - Old Navy
Boots - You guessed it, DSW

This is one of my go-to outfits. Denim skirt, cardigan, scarf, boots. It works every time.
Cardigan - Lane Bryant
Shirt - Gap
Skirt - Still don't know
Boots - Payless

My goal for next time is to use my real camera, and to take more accessory shots. See, I'm setting goals. This is good. I need you to hold me to it, Internet. You all know how I am with goal-setting!

Snow Storm....again!

We got another snow storm in Missouri, so Kody and I set out camera in hand to grab some photos.
Kody LOVES snow. He was dodging in and out of the bushes and diving right in.
In about 3 months, there will be a garden by that shed.
My garden shed is 60 years old, and it really shows it's age sometimes.
Did I mention that Kody loves playing in the snow?

My choices were snow up to my knees or walking in the street. I chose the street.

Daddy came over around 9:30 and we got to work on driveways. We still have more to do tomorrow, but we got a start.
He looks so regal in the snow.

Snow Day 2.0

In case you've been wondering what I've been up to on my snow days, I've been documenting it with my phone camera, and now you can see them.

The tree in my backyard has a snow face. It's kind of scary looking.
My nephew and I spent a lot of time playing in the snow today.
He was so happy in the snow.
His little brother joined us for a bit.
Daddy and his snow blower cleared every inch of sidewalk and driveway at my house. Then we went to a my brothers' houses and grandparents'. For the record, I helped by shoveling.
Kody is crazy about the snow. It's cute.
I get cold, and I like to look a little intimidating while shoveling.
Homemade bread bowls and cheesy potato soup. Perfect for a snow day.
Most of our time has been spent snuggled up inside.
If you have snow, I hope you are warm and cozy. If you don't have snow, I'm sorry.

Snow Day Rhymes

I'm snowed in, and so I thought I would write you all a few limericks about my snow day.

There once was a girl named Jenny,
She had hair the color of a penny,
She loved to cook, bake, and sew,
So she did all the day that it snowed,
While she was stuck in her warm, little den-y.

Thank goodness for the Hallmark Channel,
It keeps me entertained while snuggled in flannel,
With it's stories of love,
And excellent acting...well, sort of,
I wish my TV were powered with a solar panel.

Today I made soup, bread, and waffles,
None of them turned out awful,
My dog, Kody, agrees,
They were good recipes,
And none of them included fossiles.

I have a friend, and his name is Kody,
He's a dog and not a toad-y,
In the snow he loves to play,
He doesn't understand the command, "stay,"
Currently, he sleeps at my feet warm and cozy.

School is out for two days in a row,
All thanks to the buckets of snow,
That cover my drive and yard,
To shovel myself out would be hard,
Maybe I could get help from Vincent Van Gogh.

I'm going to go ahead and end these rhymes,
Because I have ran out of time,
Wheel of Fortune is starting,
The only rhyme I can think of is farting,
I'm glad I've never gotten mixed up in crime.

You're making me blush

Last night, I went to my friend, Candace's house for a Mary Kay party. We had so much fun eating yummy peanut butter dip, peach cupcakes, and playing with make-up. While applying the make-up, I came to learn that the girls never wore blush. And not only that they didn't wear it, that when applying it, they thought it should be in a straight line from the cheek to the temple. Therefore, I decided it was time to blog about the wonder of blush and contouring.

First off, you should know that I have a round face, therefore I know how to apply make-up to a round face. Each face shape is a little different, so what I'm doing won't work perfectly for everyone. You should also know, that I am not a make-up expert. I just happen to read a lot of girly magazines, and I lived in a dorm with community bathroom where we all swapped our secrets - both in the world of make-up and boys - the boy secrets obviously didn't stick.

So, in reality I really have no clue what I'm doing, but here's my face make-up routine. You should also know that I hate blogging about hair and makeup because it means that there will be a lot of weird photos, so please disregard any odd facial expressions. Finally, I tried to use my "real" camera instead of my cell phone, and self-portraits aren't the easiest, so disregard the wonky cropping.

Okay, here we go. This is what I look like when I wake up in the morning....once my hair has been tamed. No make up, no lotion, no nothing.

I start by applying eye cream, moisturizer and primer - in that order. If you aren't using primer, go get some. It evens out your pores, & gives you a dewy look. If I were rich, I would only use Arbonne's primer. I've gotten multiple people hooked on it. If I can't justify $30, or if I don't have time to order, I use Maybelline Age Rewind. My eye cream is MAC; I love it.
The moisturizer is from the Arbonne RE-9 line.

Once my face is prepped, I contour and even out my skin with concealer and foundation. I use a Maybelline concealer that is waaaaaaay darker than my skin, and I use some tri-colored concealer that I found at Costco one day. Yes. I buy make-up at Costco. Don't judge me, Internet. I also use a liquid foundation. I don't necessarily use all of these daily. Sometimes I don't do any thing, and just put on some mascara.

So here's how the conturing works. I put a little bit of the dark concealer in the hollow of my cheeks. (You can find the hollow by making kissy faces at yourself in the mirror.) Then I blend it all in with a sponge or my fingers. You can still see the line a bit, but my foundation will take care of that.

See how my concealer forms a "triangle" under my eye?
The last step before foundation is to cover up the dark circles under my eyes. I use a lighter concealer for this. The key to covering dark circles is to use the "triangle" method. I learned this on YouTube. Start at the inside corner of your eye and go down to the end of your nose. Then go to the outside corner of your eye, and fill that whole triangle in with concealer. Not just right under your eye because that just brings attention to the eye socket.

I don't blend it all in. I just kind of leave it, and let my foundation blend it in. Speaking of foundation, I use about a dime sized amount and a pink sponge that I found at TJ Maxx a few months ago. It's the type you get wet. I then use a "stipple" method to apply it. (Stippling is an art term that is kind of like blotting - apparently you're supposed to avoid rubbing your face, so you blot instead.)
Now it's time for blush. Blush is amazing. It gives skin a beautiful glow.

I use a compact with 2 colors. I think it's from Lancome. One is peach toned, and the other is pink toned. I rub my brush in both colors at the same time, that's why the compact is so messy. I figure if one color is good, two must be better.
Then I smile at myself in the mirror, and I find the apples of my cheeks. Starting at the apple of my cheek, I rub a little blush, and make a small "C" under the eye. Going from the apple around to the lip. Kind of merging my blush to my dark concealer from the first step. Sometimes I use my fingers to blend a little bit. Sometimes I don't. It all depends on my mood and what I'm getting ready to go do.
Here's my post-blush look. So serious.

The very last thing I do after eye-make up is to apply a setting powder from Arbonne. This stuff is a miracle powder. It covers every make-up mistake I make. I love it. It's just the right amount of translucent and dewy.
And then I'm done! It sounds like a lot of work, but I can do it in 5 minutes flat with eye make up. It just takes practice. Notice the definition in my cheek bones? That's the darker concealer.

Moral of the story: Don't be afraid of blush or conturing.

A quick side-by-side comparison. Notice the better light in the after photo. Photographer's trick. :)

Momma's Bathroom

Recently my mom re-did her hall bath. I really wish I had before pictures to show you because the transformation was pretty amazing. Picture it with no bead board, wall paper, blue counter top, and an oak vanity and you're there. It wasn't as tacky as I'm making it sound, but it definitely needed an update. So Dad got to work and added bead board, crafted a countertop out of bowling lane wood, painted, painted, and painted, and created this.

I chalked this for Momma.
For the record, Momma stole that rug from me.
Momma had one color picked out, but didn't like it, so Dad mixed this one up for her.

Bowling Lane Countertop. We love bowling lane wood in my family. :)
